Last chance for Buccs (Round 12 MSBL Preview)

Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers will be desperate to rescue their men's State Basketball League season during their three-game road-trip over the long weekend.

The Buccaneers, who sit in 11th spot with a 5-9 record, face Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers, Rockingham Flames and Perth Redbacks in round 12 action and need to have a successful trip or they'll almost certainly miss the finals for just the second time in their 23-year history.

Geraldton's clash with defending champions Willetton on Saturday will be their toughest of the weekend, as the Tigers, who beat the Buccaneers in last year's semi-finals, are back in form after winning five of their past six games.

SKILLED Goldfields Giants will be looking to get their top four hopes back on track during their three-game trip, which sees them face Australian Central East Perth Eagles, Southwest Slammers and Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks.

The Giants have fallen to sixth spot after defeats in three of their previous four games and face a tough test over the weekend, particularly against the Hawks, who sit in fourth spot.

Perth Wildcats guard Drew Williamson has led East Perth to victories in its past two games and the Eagles could climb into the eight with wins against the Giants and Cockburn Cougars.

The Cougars are two games behind league leaders Lakeside Lightning and will be desperate to get back into form against the Eagles and Wanneroo Wolves, who are in third spot even though their four-game winning streak ended last week.

The Redbacks have got back into form with wins in two of their previous three games and they'll be looking to consolidate their spot in the top eight with wins against Geraldton and ATD Stirling Senators.

But Stirling has climbed up to seventh and will also be desperate to strengthen their grip on a top eight spot as they try to make the finals for the first time since 2007.

Elsewhere, Kalamunda Eastern Suns and Mandurah Magic will be looking to get their finals hopes back on track when they meet on Saturday, while Lakeside should be far too good for the winless Slammers.
