Lakeside thrash the defending champions (Friday Night Wrap)

Lakeside Lightning's dominant men's State Basketball League form continued with a stunning 60-point victory over defending champions Willetton Tigers.

The Lightning were never challenged in the rematch of last year's Grand Final, jumping out to a 24-point half-time lead before outscoring the Tigers 66-30 after the break to win 128-68.

Lakeside has won its past eight games and is three wins clear on the top of the ladder after import Luke Payne had 26 points to lead it to victory. New recruit Kyle Armour (23 points) and veteran Jarrad Prue (23 rebounds) also played crucial roles.

Robert Kampman had 15 points for the Tigers, who remained in fifth place despite their eighth loss of the season.

East Perth Eagles maintained their impressive form by beating Rockingham Flames 98-83, a result which saw them climb to sixth spot.

Jarrod Balcombe had 20 points to help the Eagles overcome the absence of Perth Wildcats guard Drew Williamson and help the Eagles to their fifth win from their past six games.

Kent Tribbet had 21 points in 13th-placed Rockingham's fifth loss from its past six matches.

Mandurah Magic continued its resurgence with a comfortable 103-74 victory against the Southwest Slammers.

Veteran Aaron Trahair had 19 points to help the Magic move within two wins of the top eight and leave the Slammers winless for the season.

In women's action, Lakeside caused the upset of the season with an 82-78 win against league leaders Willetton.

The Tigers suffered just their second loss of the season as Jess Van Schie (25 points) helped Lakeside get back in finals contention with its shock victory, its fifth of the year.

Elsewhere, East Perth overturned a half-time deficit to beat Rockingham 62-43 and the Magic thrashed the Slammers 86-47, led by Shelley Boston (27 points and 12 rebounds).
