Tribunal Result - Andrew McLeannan

Australian Central East Perth Eagles Captain Andrew McLennan faced the SBL tribunal last night on a report of striking following an alleged incident during Week 14 SBL action.

McLennan was reported by the match officials for allegedly striking Rockingham player Tyrone Thwaites in the Eagles 98-83 win over Rockingham on Friday 17 June at the Mike Barnett Sports Complex.

McLennan pleaded not guilty to the charge and the Basketball WA tribunal heard evidence from the match officials, witnesses, Tyrone Thwaites and viewed the game footage.

The tribunal found McLennan guilty of the charge and gave an eight game penalty, with two games suspended until the end of the 2011 SBL season, meaning the Eagles captain will miss the next six SBL fixtures.

The tribunal acknowledged that McLennan was being held in a rebounding contest, however based on the evidence heard and the video footage the tribunal found the strike to be intentional.

McLennan will be eligible for the Eagles last two regular season games in Week 19 against Willetton and Perth.
