Semi-Finals Fixtures Released

The State Basketball League has released the schedule for the semi-final series that will be played over the next two weekends for both Women’s and Men’s competitions.

After an intense two weekends of quarter finals action, four Women’s and four Men’s teams remain in the competition with only one of the top four teams not making it through.

One half of the Women’s draw sees the defending champions and minor premiers Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers face off against the Glasscraft Wanneroo Wolves.

The Tigers defeated the Lakeside Lightning 2-1 while the Wolves advances after a tough 2-1 series victory over the Mandurah Magic.

The other end has the Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks in battle against the Australian Central East Perth Eagles. The Hawks were the only Women’s team to sweep their series with a 2-0 win over Cockburn.

East Perth on the other hand had a tough battle with the Kalamunda Eastern Suns, managing to advance 2-1 after dropping the first game.

The Men’s draw lost the defending champions with Willetton bowing out to the second ranked Wanneroo Wolves 2-1 in their series. The Wolves will now battle the Cockburn Cougars who eliminated the Perth Redbacks 2-0.

The minor premiers Lakeside Lightning had a 2-0 series win over the East Perth Eagles and will now battle the Perry Lakes Hawks who prevailed 2-0 in a close series with ATD Stirling Senators.

“We saw some intense quarter finals series, 10/20 games were decided by less than ten points, the other ten had just one game decided by more than 20 points which was great for the fans” said Competitions Manager Christian Rice.

“Three of the top four Women’s teams and all four of the Men’s top four teams are through to the Semi-Finals so we should see some close games.”

The two winners of the Women’s series will play in the grand final on Friday 26 August and the two Men’s series winners will battle it out on Saturday 27 August with both games at the WA Basketball Centre in Mt Claremont.

Tickets for the Semi-Finals games are available at the door, tickets for the Grand Finals are available through Ticketmaster outlets.
