Redbacks Win Over Singapore National Team

The Perth Redbacks Men's State Basketball Team had a spectacular 92 to 70 win against the Singapore National Team.

The game was played on the new show-court on the Brother Paull Centre at Aquinas College before a 300-plus crowd.

It follows the recent international four-nations series played in Broome between the Perth Wildcats, Singapore Slingers, Shanghai Sharks and the Indonesian National Team.

Redbacks' coach David Harris said that opportunities to play an international team are rare and provides his team with invaluable exposure to the next level of professional basketball.

"To come away with a win is a fantastic achievement by our team and augers well for the future", he said.

Perth Wildcats' development player Ben Purser top-scored for the Redbacks with 21 at a field goal percentage of 53 while bringing down 10 rebounds and making three assists and two steals.

Centre and fellow Wildcats' development player Michael Vigor was their next highest with 19 also at 53% while bringing down 14 rebounds.

In his first game for the Redbacks since his return from the Ballarat Miners, former Perth Wildcats shooting guard Jarrad Prior scored 15 at 50% along with two rebounds, two steals and two assists.

Veteran shooting guard Koh Meng Koon, who recently returned to the Singapore national team, was their top-scorer with 18 at 60% while bringing down three rebounds and making two assists.

Forward Lim Sheng Yu was their next highest scorer on 16 at 67 along with five rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Legendary Singapore international Steven Khoo scored 11, including two from two three-point shots, and had 14 rebounds while point-guard WongWei Long had 10 along with four rebounds and two assists.

The State Basketball League regular season recommences in March 2012.
