Magic Men name leadership group

The Magic men are pleased to announce that Ben Caporn will again be the captain of the Mandurah Magic men's basketball team. Andrew Bowman, Tom Remmerswaal and Taylor Mullenax will be vice captains and form the leadership group for the men's team for 2012.

Magic coach Jason Chalk desrcibed Ben as someone who has in the past led by example but has now become more vocal as he has developed his leadership skills and become more comfortable in the role. "Not many guys work as hard or play as hard as BC" Chalk said. "I have always said he plays with his heart on his sleeve and he loves the club and is Magic through and through".

Andrew Bowman was a vice cpatain of the team in 2011 and has come into this season with a new lease of life and is training with an even greater intensity than usual. "Bowie is my on court general and he has an uncanny ability to find his team mates in the right spots, we are working on his turnover reduction which will come this year but he is passionate about what he does" said Chalk.

Mullenax is the first time coach Jason Chalk has placed an import in a leadership role but he believes that Mullenax has earnt his stripes. "He works hard everyday by himself and in the weight room, he is great to have around the team and doesnt do anything fancy but gets the job done" said Chalk. "He will provide a new view onto the leadership of the group".

Tom Remmerswaal is a local product that has established himself as one of the stars of the team. Big things are expected from Tom this year as the Magic are looking for him to cover the scoring and rebounding load along with Taylor Mullenax. Chalk said" Tommy has really matured as a player and his fitness is up and he is looking exceptional out on the court. I think the added responsibility will take him to another level again"

"I want the guys to become a little more empowered with their decision making and discipline levels and this is where the leadeship group will come into play this year, often being a leader is not an enjoyable process as you need to make decisions that sometimes your mates won't like. I think we have a well balanced group of guys in the group who will get the job done" Chalk said.

The Magic tip of their season on March 16th with an away game against the Perry Lakes Hawks and then a home game the following Sunday against teh Geraldton Buccaneers.
