Senators WSBL Blog "Triple Threat"

Stirling Senators WSBL team have taken to their journalistic and blogging skills to keep our fans informed and give an insight to the inner sanctum of Stirling's premier women’s representative team.

Titled "The Triple Threat" the trio of Lyndal Gardner, Fiona Madden and Lauren Jeffers will be contributing articles as the season progresses. This week, Lyndal gives us her take on the first two weeks.

On behalf of the women’s SBL team, we thank you for your support!

It was always going to be tough drawing Willetton in the first round. They haven't been champions for the last 3 years for nothing and with a lot of their players match fit coming off the WNBL season it was going to be a tough ask. 38 points doesn't look pretty on the stats sheet, but what the stats don't show is the spirit and courage we showed to keep taking the game up to them, ensuring they had to keep playing at their best. On top of that we did put 65 points on them--- no mean feat.

Mandurah are a proud club who are always in the mix around finals time. They are tough, physical and make you earn every point you score against them. So to beat them, especially in the manner we did was particularly meritorious. To pull away from them in the final quarter, especially after they'd fought back so well speaks volumes for our character and gives us a lot of confidence for the future.

I don't believe we turned anything around in this game, rather we built upon what we started the previous week. We are a young team with many of our players experiencing the excitement of SBL basketball for the first time. The improvement that all of us, but especially those youngsters make throughout the year will largely determine how successful our season is. I deliberately haven't mentioned any individuals preferring to think of us as a team in which the contribution of each individual is appreciated and valued by the others. Thanks to the club and the coaching staff, (they're some of the best in the business) and a great group of girls, this season is going to be an enjoyable one! By focusing on the positives, working hard and striving to improve even the little things, no doubt we'll keep building as the season progresses and make a few more people sit up and take notice!
