Thomas to face former teammates

SUN City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneer, Daniel Thomas admitted the trash talk between him and his former East Perth Eagles teammates has already started.

Thomas will line-up for the Buccs against the Eagles tomorrow night, the team he played for last season.

“A couple of text messages have been exchanged here and there, talking a bit of trash but it is all in good fun,” he said.

East Perth joined the winners circle for the first time this season with victory over Kalamunda Eastern Suns.

They have lost four games and sit in 11th position on the ladder, two spots below the Buccaneers.

Tom Jervis is leading the team with an average of 19.4 points per game while Jarrod Balcombe is also playing well.

Thomas is leading the Buccs with an average of 24 points per game this season and was named in the top five for the early season MVP race by the SBL this week.

He said he hopes he can offer some insight into how to play against some of the Eagles’ main players.

“Individually I should be able to help out with each player but team wise they have a new structure because of the new coach,” he said.

“We should be alright this weekend, the fact that Morgan (Sabia) has com on board this week has everyone’s spirits up.”

The Buccs then take on Rockingham on Sunday.

The Flames are only winless team left in the competition after a 94-115 at the hands of Willetton last week.

Thomas believes this weekend is vital for Geraldton’s top four aspirations.

“For me personally it is a must to get two wins this weekend,” he said.

“I think we need to win, to stay in touch with the top four.”
