Slammers aim to put Flames out (Round 6 women's preview)

Week six in the women’s State Basketball League sees the undefeated South West Slammers take on the Rockingham Flames in a top eight battle at the Mike Barnett Sports Complex on Saturday night.

The Flames star import Emma Cannon, with an average of 27 points and 14 rebounds per game, has proved to be a legitimate threat and could prove to be the difference against the Slammers.

Rockingham only just scraped a win last week over next to bottom team Mandurah Magic and will need to pick up their offensive game to take on the league champions.

Perennial finalists Mandurah Magic are yet to win a game this season and face another test this weekend when they face the Wanneroo Wolves at Joondalup on Friday night.

The Magic have had five consecutive losses this season while the Wolves have won six out of seven games, losing only to the Perry Lakes Hawks in round four.

The Wolves have a very strong offensive team across the board but the Magic will be looking to stop WNBL player Nikita-Lee Martin and forward Ainsleigh Sanders who are both in top form.

The Magic will then face the Kalamunda Eastern Suns on Saturday night with both teams hoping for a victory after suffering losses last week.

Undefeated Lakeside Lightening will take on bottom of the ladder Cockburn Cougars on Friday night in a Cougars home game.

The Cougars are yet to win a game this season and the Lightening's impeccable season record will make them tough competition.

Lakesides strong season has been assisted by key offensive players Courtney Byrnes with an average of over 19 points a game and Jessica Seyler with an averaged 14.3 points a game, nine rebounds and three assists.

Stirling Senators are aiming for their second win of the season against fifth team the Perth Redbacks who have won three of their last five.

In a rematch of last year’s grand-final the Willetton Tigers will host the East Perth Eagles on Saturday.

Both teams are in very different situations in 2012 with the Tigers in fourth place with a 4-1 record while the Eagles sit in ninth place with a 1-5 record.
