Lakeside look to strengthen lead (Round 7 women's preview)

Lakeside Lightning will look to strengthen their hold on top spot when they face the defending champions Willetton in week seven women’s State Basketball League action.

Lakeside has surprised everyone with their undefeated start to the season however Willetton will be their hardest assignment to date.

A win against the defending champions would not only prove their credentials, it would strengthen their grip on top spot as they enter a tough month of fixtures against top four sides.

East Perth Eagles will be looking to string together two wins and get their season back on track when they face powerhouse Wanneroo on the road.

The second placed Wolves have only dropped one game so far this season and will be a huge test for the 2011 grand finalists who have largely struggled in 2012 and sit outside the top eight with a 2-5 record.

At the opposite end of the standings the Mandurah Magic will host the Cockburn Cougars on Saturday night with one team guaranteed to get their first win of the season.

Mandurah will be a tough test for coach Danny Nelson and his young Cougars line-up, the perennial finalists will be on their home court and also have a losing margin of just nine points this season.

Perry Lakes Hawks also face a big weekend with an away game against the much improved Rockingham Flames on the road and Kalamunda Eastern Suns at home.

Rockingham has shown much improvement this year with Kaye Tucker returning from injury and the addition of import Emma Cannon strengthening their line-up.

Kalamunda on the other hand have had mixed fortunes in 2012, however head coach Craig Mansfield will return after spending two weeks away with the Under 18 state team.

The Eastern Suns will also host Stirling Senators on Friday night who last weekend added New Zealand international Karlene Kingi to the line-up and pushed the stronger Redbacks, eventually going down 75-71.

The Senators also face Rockingham at home on Saturday night in a clash that will test their credentials.

Kingi will have to be at her best in just her third game when she faces the much improved Rockingham front court.
