Wolves pounce into top spot (Round 7 women's wrap)

In round seven of the women's State Basketball League the Wanneroo Wolves defeated the East Perth Eagles 73-65 to jump into top spot on the standings.

Consistent guard Nikita-Lee Martin scored 21 points, nine rebounds and three assists to get her side over the line.

A Friday night shake up saw the Willetton Tigers knock down the previously undefeated Lakeside Lightning 89-75.

The defending champions were led by a forceful offensive game from Jasmine Hooper (20 points, seven rebounds and five assists) and Melissa Marsh with 22 points, seven rebounds and eight assists.

In a momentous weekend for the Kalamunda Eastern Suns they took down the Stirling Senators on Friday night and the Perry Lakes Hawks on Saturday.

The Suns defeated the Senators 84-67 and the Hawks 89-72, showing big potential for such a youthful team.

The Suns Adrienne Jones was a star with 24 points against the Hawks, Kalamunda also put in a dominant shooting display in their undefeated weekend.

The Rockingham Flames are only just hanging onto a top eight position after a disappointing weekend going down to Perry Lakes on Friday and the Stirling Senators on Saturday.

The Hawks defeated the Flames 67-59, despite incredible hunger from Flames star Emma Cannon (32 points) doubling the total of Hawks highest scorer Chelsey Boyanich (16 points).

Despite of the lack of individual stand outs the Hawks have a solid offensive line up, with key players Rosie Tobin (14 points) and Gabriella Clayton (12 points) aiding in the victory.

The Senators defeated the Flames 92-87, Senators Lyndal Gardner with 30 points, five rebounds and five assists went head to head with Flames consistently stellar Cannon with 25 points and 12 rebounds.

A bottom of the ladder clash between the Mandurah Magic and the Cockburn Cougars lead the Magic to their first win after a disheartening seven consecutive losses.

Both teams were in desperate need of a win and with a home court advantage the Magic came through victorious with a 87-72 win.

The Cougars are now in outright last position of the league with seven out of seven losses this season.
