Lightning bounce back (Round 8 women's wrap)
In round eight of the women's State Basketball League the Lakeside Lightning came back from last weeks devastating blow to take out bottom of the ladder Mandurah Magic 82-74.
The Lightning now remain undefeated on the road after they secured their fifth win away from home.
Mandurah's two attempts from the three point line were no competition for Lakeside's 33 shots at goal, with intense pressure from Lightning's Jessica Seyler (19 points, 13 rebounds) and Courtney Byrnes (18 points).
The South West Slammers have crept into second position after smashing the Perry Lakes Hawks 88-51 on Saturday night.
The Slammers had superior shooting accuracy across the board and managed to put up 24 more shots than the Hawks, a contributing factor in the 37 point victory.
Belinda Mayger (16 points), standing alone for the Hawks with double figures was no match for Slammers Kim Sitzmann (24 points, seven rebounds), Zoe Harper (15 points, nine rebounds) and Valeria Ogoke with 15 points and seven rebounds.
The Kalamunda Eastern Suns have secured their fourth consecutive win taking down the Willetton Tigers 69-64.
After winning just one of their first five games the Suns have gained momentum and their four game winning streak is currently the largest in the league.
Despite the Tigers having a stronger shooting accuracy from the field and the three point line the Suns came through doubling the Tigers score from the free throw line.
The Suns Sandra Faye Muller-Gamer was an all-round threat with 23 points, and 12 defensive rebounds.
The Rockingham Flames have dashed the East Perth Eagles early hopes of making it into a top eight position after taking them down 81-76.
The five point victory has boosted the Flames into seventh spot after a crippling two game losing streak.
In a bottom three clash the Cockburn Cougars defeated the Stirling Senators 74 -57 for Cockburns first win of the season.
The Cougars had a stronger shooting accuracy from the field and the free throw line and nearly doubled the Senators percentage of shots scored from the three point line, Cougars Stephanie Jones led the way with a double-double (20 points and 16 rebounds).
