Senators thrive in Geraldton

STIRLING Senators coach Don Jamieson said this weekend is his side’s favourite of the season.

Jamieson and the Senators will embark on the 400km bus trip north to Geraldton to take on the Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers at Activewest Stadium tomorrow night.

Stirling is in ninth position after winning five of their opening 11 games.

Jamieson said they are one or two wins away from where they expected to be at this stage of the year.

But he expects his players to respond to the challenge of travelling to Geraldton this weekend.

“Everyone loves going to Gero, we like it, it is a great atmosphere,” he said.

“It is quite a knowledgeable crowd, we enjoy the abuse and their attitude after the game so it is probably our favourite road trip of the year.

“The total environment of the game at Gero we always found to be our best, we really enjoy everything that happens there.”

Stirlings’ William Foster is expected to return from injury while their second American import is yet to arrive in Australia.

Adhar Mayen leads the Senators in scoring, averaging 19.1 points per game.

Michael Jones has also stepped up this season with averages of 16.7 points and 10.5 rebounds per contest.

Jamieson said he and his player are wary of the task they face tomorrow night despite the Buccs’ four-seven win-loss record.

“It is a wounded dog at the moment,” he said.

“We know what Gero have done over the years at home but at the moment they are a wounded dog, we are very cautious because we know how tough they are going to be.

“We looked with interest at the numbers of the new import (Morgan Sabia) last week and we are expecting big things from him this week.”
