Lightning bounce back, Magic surge (Friday wrap)

The Lakeside Lightning have secured top spot after taking down the Perth Redbacks 90-84 in a fiery top-four clash.

Recovering from last weeks loss the Lightning struck after a rocky first quarter, assisted by Luke Payne (20 points, 11 rebounds) and Jarrad Prue with 15 points and 30 rebounds.

Lakesides dominated the rebound count to win the battle of the boards by 29.

A stellar performance from Redbacks Michael Vigor with 26 points, ten rebounds and six assists was not enough to get Perth over the line.

In a battle for fifth position the Mandurah Magic have defeated the Willetton Tigers 85-83.

Gathering momentum the Magic have taken out five of the last six games and are gunning for a top four position going into the second half of the season.

Despite making more shots from the field, the Tigers only managed 18 percent of shots from the three point line and 45 percent from the free throw line.

The Magic swarmed the court with offensive pressure from Thomas Remmerswaal (26 points, 15 rebounds) and import Taylor Mullenax (18 points).

The boys went head to head with Tigers imports Robert Kampman (25 points, 13 rebounds) and Ephrem Davis (21 points, 13 rebounds).

In the women's league a top four show-down saw the Lightning fall to the Redbacks 67-57, the loss will see the both teams 7-2, Lakeside in front on percentage.

Lightning's were led by Courtney Byrnes (17 points), the Redbacks by Marita Payne with 22 points and 15 rebounds.

The Tigers defeated bottom of the ladder Mandurah 79-60, Willetton's stronger shooting accuracy across the board combined with Melissa Marsh's 27 points and eight assists left Mandurah no room to conjure any last quarter magic.
