Kelly Ellis Returns to Senators Line-up

Stirling Senators welcome back super-mum Kelly Ellis to SBL against Perry Lakes this weekend, five weeks after giving birth to her second child, Ruby Ellis.

Ellis was a key and experienced member of last year’s Senators squad and gave birth to her and husband Perth Redbacks Head coach Glenn Ellis, second child in late March, but always had the intention of returning in 2012.

Senators Head Coach Vlad Alava was pleased to welcome the 300 plus games veteran back and praised the guard for her work and commitment to the team before and after the birth of baby Ruby.

"During last year, Kelly was in a real purple patch of form mid-way through the season and I jokingly said to Glenn Ellis that I was definitely having Kelly back and she better not fall pregnant. Next thing you know they pass on the great news but I maintained early that I still wanted Kelly back in the fold for 2012. I don’t think they thought I was serious!”

“Kelly has been nothing short of fantastic with her commitment levels to getting back, as has Glenn and Kel’s parents who do the babysitting most of the time on game days. Make no mistake, Kelly has earned this return, this quickly. We mapped out a plan for her comeback and she is coming along very nicely! She is still going to get better but I have seen enough in what she has done to know that she can return to the fold this weekend. Her experience and poise will be a big factor for this young team so I look forward to her really contributing as the season unfolds.”

When asked to comment on her selection and return to the SBL team this weekend, Ellis left no one unawares of what motivated her to comeback.

“People may query why I am playing on? The answer is simple, the Stirling team! The girls are just an awesome bunch and together with the coaches guidance are continually improving on the court. They are young and have shown what they are capable of. I am very excited and proud to be returning alongside my team mates.

I had a year off basketball when I had Lachy and this time I have returned 5 weeks after having Ruby! Physically I am feeling better this time around and am excited to be joining the team on game night! Go Stirling!!”
