Redbacks extinguish Flames

The Perth Redbacks Men’s State Basketball League team had a dominant 119 to 93 away-game win over the bottom placed Rockingham Flames.

This win sees the Redbacks’ men move up one place to third in the 14-team competition with nine wins and four losses.

Perth Wildcats’development player and Redbacks’ centre Michael Vigor was the game-high scorer with 28 along with 16 rebounds, four assists and four blocked-shots.

Shooting guard Jarrad Prior was their next highest scorer with 20 off just 10 shots at a field goal percentage of 70 along with three assists.

Small-forward Blake Bender had 16 at 71% and six rebounds, while Joel Wagner also had 16 at 57% along with six assists.

Rockingham Centre James Booyer was their highest scorer with 21 at 39% along with nine rebounds and guard Beau Samuelson had 20 at 58% along with seven rebounds and five assists.

The Redbacks women’s team had a disappointing 51 to 55 loss to the eighth placed Flames.

Power-forward Jessica Jakens was the Redbacks’ top scorer with 12 at 50% along with eight rebounds.

Shooting guard Kerise Delcoure was their next highest scorer with 10 while centre Marita Payne had eight along with 12 rebounds.

The game-high scorer was Rockingham’s centre Emma Cannon with 23 and eight rebounds, while power forward Kaye Tucker had 10 along with 15 rebounds and seven assists.

The loss sees the Redbacks women drop one place to third in the 12-team competition with eight wins and three losses.

This Saturday the Redbacks travel to the Ray Owen Stadium, Lesmurdie in an away-game fixture against the Kalamunda Eastern Suns with the women’s game starting at 6PM and the men’s game at 8PM.
