Mixed results for top WSBL teams (Round 10 women's wrap)

There were mixed results for top teams in week ten women’s action including the South West Slammers who moved into second place after taking down the Lakeside Lightning 63-53 on Friday night, only to lose to the fifth place Willetton Tigers 86-77 on Saturday.

The Slammers secured their eighth victory of the season on Friday night, coming from behind to close an eleven points deficit at the half way mark to win the game by ten points.

Import Kim Sitzman led the way for the Slammers with 30 points, the Lightning gave the Slammers plenty of second chance points with 29 offensive rebounds for the game.

Melissa Marsh stepped up in the Tigers win over the Slammers on Saturday night scoring 20 points while young-gun Jasmine Hooper had a double-double with 20 points and 11 assists, Kara Hargreaves had 22 for the Slammers but it wasn’t enough.

Rockingham Flames pushed the Perth Redbacks from second place in an upset 55-51 win which halted the Redbacks run at four games.

Dominating the court was Flames star Emma Cannon (23 points and eight rebounds) while Redbacks young forward Jessica Jakens was a standout for her side with 12 points, eight rebounds and two assists.

Bottom team the Cockburn Cougars have ended the Kalamunda Eastern Suns five game winning streak taking them down 84-74.

Cougars import Stephanie Jones was the standout with an incredible 31 points and 11 rebounds in the upset victory.

The Perry Lakes Hawks had a solid weekend taking down the Cougars on Friday night 77-64, for the Cougars ninth loss of the season, then smashing the Stirling Senators 77-45 on Saturday night.

Despite an impressive performance from Cougar's Stephanie Jones (35 point, 13 rebounds) on Friday night the Hawk's had too much offensive firepower with Belinda Mayger, Chelsea Boyanich & Tegan Walker all scoring in double figures.

2011 Most Improved Player Rosie Tobin led the Hawks with 14 points and ten rebounds on Saturday while Senators guard Lauren Jeffers (11 points) was the only player to put double digits on the board.

East Perth Eagles found some positive signs on Saturday with a 92-63 win over Mandurah Magic thanks to 30 points from guard Kate Fielding.
