Lightning win double to stay on top (Round 10 men's wrap)

The Lakeside Lightning took advantage of a double header weekend to extend their lead on top of the men’s standings taking down the South West Slammers on Friday night and the Geraldton Buccaneers on Saturday.

The Lightning defeated the Buccaneers 84-69 and the Slammers 110-76 and are now two games clear of Wanneroo, although Wanneroo have a game in hand.

Lakeside forward Simon Lokan (21 points, 13 rebounds) stepped up for Lakeside on Friday night while the Slammers were again led by import Senario Hillman who finished with 33 points.

The Lightning controlled the game against Geraldton on Saturday with guards Luke Payne (17 points) and Brad Jackson (14 points) controlling the offensive end and Jarrad Prue was strong with 17 defensive rebounds.

The Wanneroo Wolves kept the pressure on Lakeside after defeating the Goldfields Giants 99-90 in their fourth consecutive win on Saturday night.

Wanneroo missed local product Greg Hire but covered the re-signed Wildcats forward with 25 points from Seb Salinas and double-doubles from forwards Jordan Wild (22 points, 11 rebounds) and Damian Matacz (30 points and 11 rebounds).

The Cockburn Cougars have clawed their way into third position after a solid weekend defeating the Perry Lakes Hawks 103-81 on Friday night and the Kalamunda Eastern Suns 119-90 on Saturday.

Cougar's import Jeremiah Wilson had an incredible weekend with 31 points and12 rebounds against the Hawks and 37 points, 13 rebounds and five assists against the Suns.

The Perth Redbacks jumped back into the top four after defeating the Rockingham Flames 119-93, Redbacks big man Michael Vigor was the standout with 28 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

The East Perth Eagles soared into a top eight position on the back of a huge upset over the Mandurah Magic 113-64 on Saturday night.

The Magic were edged out of a top four position after an impressive game from Eagle’s duo Drew Williamson (28 points) and Jarrod Balcombe with 23 points.

The Stirling Senators defeated the Perry Lakes Hawks 91-81 on Saturday night with five Senators players scoring in double figures.

The Willetton Tigers defeated the Slammers 108-90 while the Kalamunda Eastern Suns defeated the Buccaneers 106-88 on Sunday to send the Buccs home winless.
