Slammers look to stay on top (Round 12 women's preview)

The South West Slammers jumped into top spot last weekend and will face a battle to remain there over the long weekend when they take on the fifth place Perth Redbacks on Saturday night.

Despite the Redbacks being out of the top four and having lost their past two games they still remain undefeated on home soil, whereas the Slammers are 3-3 on the road so far this season.

It will be a telling round for the Lakeside Lighting with back to back games hosting the ninth place East Perth Eagles on Friday night and taking on the seventh place Rockingham Flames in a Flames home game on Saturday.

Depending on the success of the weekend the third place Lightning could ascend to second place on the ladder or even return to the top spot.

The Flames pose a greater threat to the Lightning with star Emma Cannon in scintillating form averaging 26 points and 14 rebounds, however Lakeside have won five from six games on the road and will be confident going into the match.

The bottom of the ladder Mandurah Magic host the fourth place Willetton Tigers on Friday night, the Tigers looking to extend their two game winning streak without captain Melissa Marsh who will miss the next six weeks.

The eight place Perry Lakes Hawks host the tenth place Stirling Senators on Friday night, the Hawks needing a solid win to remain in the top eight after losing three of their last five games.

It will be a big weekend for the Senators facing back to back games against two top eight sides, after facing the Hawks they go on to host the sixth place Kalamunda Eastern Suns on Saturday night.

The Suns are in great form having won four of their past five games and at home, posing a big threat to the Senators.
