Lightning, Wolves continue battle for top spot (Round 12 men's preview)

Lakeside Lightning face a crucial double header in men’s state basketball league action taking on the East Perth Eagles on Friday night at home and then hitting the road to play Rockingham Flames on Saturday.

The Lightning will be desperate to secure both wins after last week’s loss in their top of the table clash, however the Eagles are in strong form since the addition of Drew Williamson in the NBL off-season.

Rockingham will have a tough battle on their hands taking on the league leaders on the back of five consecutive losses with only two wins under their belt this season.

Second place Wanneroo Wolves take on the struggling Geraldton Buccaneers in a Wolves home game on Sunday.

The Wolves are hungry for a win, trailing the Lightning only on percentage, and are in excellent form on the back of six consecutive wins and the recent addition of Wildcats guard Brad Robbins last weekend.

Third placed Cockburn Cougars host the tenth placed Goldfields Giants on Saturday night with the Giants needing a strong weekend on the road if they are to get back into the top eight.

Perth Redbacks only just got over Kalamunda Eastern Suns last weekend, they take on the struggling South West Slammers at home on Saturday night and will be looking for a big win.

Fifth place Mandurah Magic will be looking at a top four position, after their thrilling one point win in Geraldton last weekend, when they take on the eighth placed Willetton Tigers in Mandurah.

Willetton star Robert Kampman is in good form averaging 27 point a game, his battle against the Magic forwards will be crucial to the outcome of the game.

The Tigers then head home to take on the Buccaneers on Saturday, Geraldton needing to show some strong form if they are to remain a finals chance.

The Stirling Senators also face a crucial weekend with back to back games against the seventh place Perry Lakes Hawks on Friday night and then hosting the improving Kalamunda Eastern Suns on Saturday.

The Eastern Suns round out their weekend with a home game against the Giants on Sunday.
