Slammers remain on top (Round 12 women's wrap)

The South West Slammers remain in the top spot after taking down the Perth Redbacks 69-55 in round twelve of the women's State Basketball League.

The Slammers recovered from a slow first quarter to dominate the second creating a 24 point lead, the Redbacks slowly closed the deficit but never managed to catch up.

Slammers imports Kim Sitzmann (22 points, 11 rebounds) and Valeria Ogoke with 15 points and 19 rebounds were dominant players in the Redbacks third consecutive defeat.

The Willetton Tigers have moved into third place after defeating bottom of the ladder Mandurah Magic 79-53 on Friday night in the Magics fourth consecutive loss.

The Tigers were led by Jasmine Hooper with 22 points and five rebounds and Courtney Hargreaves with 20 points and nine rebounds.

It was a terrible weekend for the top four Lakeside Lightning going down to bottom four East Perth Eagles and then the seventh place Rockingham Flames, the Lightnings confidence will be shaky having lost four of their last five games.

The Lightning went down to the Eagles 83-77 in front of a Lightning home crowd on Friday night, Eagles Samantha Norwood putting on a spectacular show with 32 points and 13 rebounds.

Despite remaining a bottom four side the up and coming Eagles are in solid form, having won the last four consecutive games.

The Flames then took down the Lightning 89-82 on Saturday night, Flames superstar Emma Cannon was strong with 33 points and 19 rebounds.

Stirling Senators had a tough weekend going down to the Perry Lakes Hawks on Friday night and then losing at home to the Kalamunda Eastern Suns on Saturday.

The eighth place Hawks took down the Senators 74-54 with solid performances from Hawks veteran Tegan Walker (18 points, five rebounds) and young guard Gabriella Clayton with 16 points.

The fifth place Suns then defeated the Senators 78-56, Suns Emma Berryman, Chelsea Armstrong, Rachel Muenggenborg and Rebecca Boyanich all getting double digits on the board.
