Giants overcome Hawks on buzzer

The Perry Lakes Hawks men have dropped out of the top eight after losing to the Goldfields Giants 103-101.

In a scene reminiscent of the last match-up, a tip in on the buzzer was all that could separate the two sides, however this time it was Goldfields that won the game.

The Hawks had an outstanding first half on the back of tough team defence and outstanding shooting from Jesse Dixon and Matt Rosinski.

With Shane Ross in early foul trouble, Fletcher Creelman and Mike Exell picked up the slack dominating the rebound count in the first half.

The Giants made their run in the first five minutes of the third quarter, pegging back the lead before drawing level in the fourth.

The Hawks were down by three inside the last minute, before Rosinski hit a fade-away three to draw the scores level with only 24 seconds left.

The Giants wound down the clock to get one shot off, but it was their captain Matthew Leske who tipped in the game winner.

The victory was especially sweet for Giants Head Coach Dan Fisher who recorded his first win over his old club.

Former Hawk Rory Pekin also enjoyed the win, as he played in his first home game for his new club.
