Flames continue rise (Round 13 women's wrap)

The Rockingham Flames continue to impress after another great weekend in the women's State Basketball League securing back to back victories against the Cockburn Cougars and the Willetton Tigers.

The Flames defeated the Cougars 79-55 on Friday night and then took down the Tigers 67-40 on Saturday.

Young star Jacinta Bourne starred for the Flames on Friday with 21 points while Emma Cannon had another double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, Stephanie Jones was the Cougars best with 22 points and 18 rebounds.

On Saturday Flames import Emma Cannon dominated with 29 points and 22 rebounds, West Coast Waves guard Jasmine Hooper was the Tigers best with 23 points and seven rebounds.

South West Slammers extended their lead on top of the standings after taking down the Magic on Friday night and then hitting the road to defeat the Stirling Senators on Saturday.

The Slammers defeated the Magic 70-60, the Magic put up a fight in Tarsha Fletchers 250th game but could not get over the line.

Slammers guard Kara Hargreaves (15 points) and centre Zoe Harper with 14 points were the standouts.

The Senators were no match for the Slammers as they slumped to their fourth consecutive loss, going down 90-55.

Slammers centre Zoe Harper (19 points, 13 rebounds) and import Kim Sitzmann (18 points) led the way for the Slammers on Saturday.

It was a great weekend for the third place Perth Redbacks, taking down top eight Lakeside Lightning on Friday night and the Magic on Saturday.

The Redbacks defeated the Lightning 47-46 thanks to a dominant first quarter, keeping the Lightning to just two points.

The Lightning came back from the 12 point deficit after the first to win the next three quarters but couldn’t manage to get over the line despite a solid effort from Lakeside's Claire Johnson with 18 points.

The Redbacks then hit the road to defeat the Magic 72-54 on the back of 22 points and six rebounds from guard Rachel Watman.

The second place Wanneroo Wolves maintained their inconsistent form, going down to the fifth place Kalamunda Eastern Suns on Saturday night 66-54.

The Wolves have now lost their last three games and hold on to second place on percentage.
