Wolves extend winning streak to ten (Friday night wrap)

After last nights victory against the Willetton Tigers the Wanneroo Wolves are now on an incredible ten game wining streak and are looking ready to challenge for the top spot.

Wanneroo took down the Tigers 87-73 with an impressive performance from Wolves centre Damian Matacz (32 points, 14 rebound) and an incredible game from Wolves junior & Wildcat Greg Hire with 25 points and 22 rebounds.

Lakeside Lightning had a close call against the third place Cockburn Cougars, managing to get over the line 84-83.

Cockburn turned the second half of the game around with a booming 30 point third quarter but couldn’t maintain the attack, falling short in the final quarter.

The top four clash saw the Lightning led by import Ben Beran (24 points) and guard Brad Jackson with 24 points while Cougars import Jeremiah Wilson was consistently impressive with 25 points and 10 rebounds.

A last quarter comeback saw the East Perth Eagles sneak over the line to defeat the bottom of the ladder Rockingham Flames 102-101.

The one point victory is a crushing blow for the Flames who held steady the entire game and were so close to ending their nine game losing streak and securing their third win of the season.

Eagles pair Jarrod Balcombe (33 points) and Tom Jervis (30 points, 13 rebounds) put big numbers on the board while Flames guard Trent Gerovich (35 points) and import James Booyer with 23 points and 10 rebounds led the Flames charge.

In the women's league the Wolves were dealt another devastating blow as they fell from the top four after going down to the the Tigers 61-56.

The Flames continue to climb the ladder after taking down the Eagles 74-60.

Rockingham were led by Kaye Tucker (21 points) and Emma Cannon with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
