Flames rise to top three (Round 16 women's wrap)

The Rockingham Flames have moved into third position after another impressive round of the women's State Basketball League saw them defeat the Kalamunda Eastern Suns and the Perry Lakes Hawks to extend their streak to eight.

On Friday night the Flames defeated the fifth place Eastern Suns 90-86, Flames star Emma Cannon was incredible with 44 points and 27 rebounds, she was supported by Kaye Tucker with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

They then took down the Hawks 84-58 on Saturday, the Flames dominated the game on the back of solid performances from Emma Cannon (26 points, 15 rebounds) and Kaye Tucker (12 points, ten rebounds).

South West Slammers took down the struggling Wanneroo Wolves 53-50, the win extends their streak to six games, while the Wolves succumbed to their sixth consecutive loss.

Only four players managing to score in double digits, Zoe Harper (12 points) and Kim Sitzmann (16 points) for the Slammers with Meghan D'Arcy (13 points) and Megan Lee (ten points) for the Wolves.

The Willetton Tigers defeated the Lakeside Lightning 82-77 on Saturday night to jump into second on the standings, the Tigers were led by Jasmine Hooper and Lara Napier who both finished with 18 points.

East Perth Eagles upset the Perth Redbacks 62-46 to leave the Redbacks in fourth place, Eagles star Samantha Norwood was strong with 17 points and ten rebounds while guard Kate Fielding chipped in with 15 points.

Mandurah Magic managed to scrape over the line to defeat the Stirling Senators 59-55, after a slow first half the Magic sprang into action to take the lead, veteran Shelley Boston led the way with 13 points and 22 rebounds.

The Senators bounced back the next night to take down the Cockburn Cougars 57-52 despite a rocky start to the game, the loss leaves the Cougars on a four game losing streak.

Guard Lyndal Gardner led the way for Stirling with 27 points and 12 rebounds, while the Cougars were led by reliable import Stephanie Jones with 27 points and 20 rebounds.
