Giants reign supreme in regional showdown (Round 16 men's wrap)

The Goldfields Giants have kept their finals hopes alive and all but ended those of their regional rivals Geraldton Buccaneers in a crushing 94-83 win in Kalgoorlie on Saturday night.

American guard Ty Harrelson dominated for the Giants with 32 points and 11 rebounds while the Buccs were led by junior Aaron Ralph (22 points) and import Morgan Sabia (20 points).

Top of the ladder Lakeside Lightening secured its sixth consecutive win after taking down cross town rivals the Willetton Tigers 103-75, young guard Brad Jackson led the way with 28 points.

Defending champions, the Wanneroo Wolves extended their winning streak to twelve after smashing the South West Slammers in Eaton 105-75 on Saturday night.

Veteran Damian Matacz continued his strong form with 29 points while Wanneroo product and Wildcats player Greg Hire chipped in with 16 points and 18 rebounds.

Adrian Majstrovich returned with 35 points for the Perth Redbacks after a lengthy spell with injury, however the East Perth Eagles upset the Redbacks 113-100, both teams now sit just outside the top four with a 9-7 record.

Stirling Senators had a devastating weekend, losses to Mandurah Magic and Cockburn Cougars leaves their finals hopes all but over, they now sit 7-14 and are three games away from eighth place.

The Senators fell just short in overtime on Friday against the Magic going down 113-108, import Taylor Mullenax was the star for the Magic with 30 points and 17 rebounds while veteran Aaron Trahair had 28 points.

The Cougars then smashed the Senators 113-80 on Saturday with five Cougars players scoring in double figures, led by Jeremiah Wilson (23), Brian Carlwell (21), Sheldon McIntyre (19), Damien Scott (16) and Gavin Field (10).

Rockingham Flames had a tough weekend that saw their losing streak stretch to twelve after going down to Kalamunda Eastern Suns 126-97 on Friday and 130-99 to Perry Lakes Hawks on Saturday.

Kalamunda continued their revival on the back of 27 points from Greg Palmer and double-doubles from Lee Roberts (19 points, 19 rebounds), Justin Brown (14 points, 13 rebounds) and Nebojsha Franich (12 points, 12 rebounds).

The Hawks, in the absence of Ben Purser, were led by imports Shane Ross (35 points, 20 rebounds) and Matthew Rosinski (32 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists) while youngster Josh Garlepp (18 points, 14 rebounds) chipped in.
