Redbacks lose vital games

The Perth Redbacks Men’s and Women’s State Basketball League teams both lost vital away-games against the East Perth Eagles.

The Redbacks men lost 100 to 113, which sees them slip one place down the ladder to sixth in the 14-team competition with 12 wins and nine losses.

In his come-back game following seven weeks absence to injury, forward Adrian Majstrovich top-scored for the Redbacks with a game-high 35 at a field goal percentage of 40 along with 19 rebounds.

Shooting guard Jarrad Prior was their next highest scorer with 20 at 50% and two steals.

Point-guard Joel Wagner scored 18 at 39% and had nine assists.

Tom Jervis was the Eagles top-scorer with 30 at 75% along with 19 rebounds and five assists.

The Redbacks women’s team lost 46 to 62 to the Eagles.

This loss cost them dearly as they dropped from second to fourth in the 12-team competition with 12 wins and six losses.

Shooting guard Kerise Delcoure top-scored for the Redbacks with 11 at 44% and two steals.

17-year-old small-forward Jessica Jakens was their next highest scorer with eight at 60% and five rebounds.

Power-forward Brooke Hiddlestone scored six at 100% and five rebounds while centre Marita Payne also scored six at 33% along with six rebounds.

Eagles centre Samantha Norwood was the game-high scorer with 17 at 46% along with 10 rebounds and five steals.

The action continues this Friday at the Redbacks home venue of the Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre when they meet the Wanneroo Wolves in what have now become ‘must-win’ games for both their teams.

This fixture is a part of the NAIDOC celebration week, with tip-off for the women’s game being at 6.30PM and at 8.30PM for the men’s game.
