Teams look to break deadlock (Round 17 women's preview)

With three teams tied in second place the Perth Redbacks will be looking to break from the crowd when they face the struggling Wanneroo Wolves on Friday in week 17 women’s state basketball league action.

The Redbacks have won four of their past five games while the Wolves are on a six game losing streak and will be looking to grab some form heading into the finals.

The Wolves will back up on Saturday when they host cross-town rivals the Stirling Senators, the Wolves will fancy their chances with the 4-14 Senators yet to pick up a road win in 2012.

League number one the South West Slammers take on the Perry Lakes Hawks in a Hawks home game on Saturday night, the Slammers will be looking to extend their six game winning streak.

Perry Lakes will be looking to keep their finals hopes alive, however without veteran Tegan Walker and the midseason retirement of centre Christine Boyd they will have to be at their best against the star Slammers line-up.

Last year’s runners-up East Perth Eagles will face a tough test on Friday when they face a replay of last year’s grand final against the Willetton Tigers, who despite missing key players are in second position and in strong form.

The Eagles go on to play Cockburn on Saturday night in a Cougars home game, the young Cougars line-up has been in inconsistent form and are on a four game losing streak.

Mandurah Magic face a double header this weekend against the Perry Lakes Hawks at home on Friday and the Lakeside Lightning away on Saturday.

Friday night against the Hawks is a home game for the Magic, Mandurah will have some confidence after a win last weekend while the Hawks are on a three game losing streak.

The Magic then hit the road to take on Lakeside at home, the Lightning are also in shaky form having lost four of their last five games and will need a win to ensure they keep their finals destiny in their own hands.
