Eagles fly over Cockburn
The People’s Choice Eagles held off a determined Cockburn Cougars team to win their fifth straight game on Saturday night with a 83-76 victory.
The game started off as a close affair, with both teams going basket for basket before the Eagles capitalised on poor turnovers to lead by one at the end of the first.
The Eagles secured their win with a dominant second period display outscoring the Cougars 30-17, taking a 14 point lead to half time.
Poor shooting accuracy and turnovers saw the Cougars come within four in the third after scoring the opening 10 points.
The Eagles rallied with strong defence and a match winning performance by Tom Jervis (18 points, 14 rebounds) and import Corey Easley (17 points and 7 rebounds).
There were positive signs for the Cougars, with imports Jeremiah Wilson and Brian Carwell, leading the way with 26 points, 11 rebounds and 22 points, 15 rebounds respectively.
Next week the Eagles face the Mandurah Magic who last night ended the Lakeside Lightning’s six game winning streak while the Cougars face the Geraldton Buccaneers.
Earlier in the women's game the Cockburn Cougars upset the Toll Ipec East Perth Eagles 71-65 with import Stephanie Jones again dominating with 23 points and 16 rebounds.
The game was right for the first half with the Cougars up by four at half time, however a 22-7 third period sealed the game for the Cougars despite a late rally from the Eagles in the fourth.
