FIFO Slammer flies in to help out

The fly-in fly-out working trend has swept onto the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers roster, just ask their latest recruit Buster Perkins.

In a committed bid to break into the SBL, Perkins, who joined the Slammers after previous import Carlos White’s departure last month, will make the near 2800km journey from his Darwin home to play each week.

The 29-year-old American made his debut for the Slammers at the weekend, scoring 13 points in their defeat to Lakeside on Friday night and 22 in their loss to Goldfields on Saturday.

He will arrive in Bunbury today ahead of the South West side’s bout against Rockingham tomorrow night and Kalamunda on Saturday.

He will also play in the Slammers final homeand-away fixture against Willetton the following weekend.

Speaking with the South Western Times from Darwin, Perkins said he had funded the travel personally with a contribution from a Northern Territory-based sponsor.
