Minor premiership goes down to the wire (Round 19 women's wrap)

Kalamunda Eastern Suns kept their top four dreams alive in week nineteen women’s state basketball league action, taking down the Lakeside Lightning and South West Slammers.

The Eastern Suns put on a strong display in the fourth to overcome a two point three quarter time deficit against Lakeside, Racahel Muenggenborg (20 points) and Adrienne Jones (13 points, five assists) led the way for Kalamunda.

In a surprise result, Eastern Suns also took down the Slammers 73-68, Adrienne Jones was strong again with 17 points, six rebounds and four assists to lead the way for Kalamunda.

The result saw South West drop to second on the standings despite double-double performances from Valeria Ogoke (17 points, 13 rebounds), Kim Sitzmann (17 points, 11 rebounds) and Zoe Harper (10 points, 14 rebounds).

South West picked up a crucial win at home on the Friday night, halting the Rockingham Flames ten game winning streak with a 77-60 victory.

Kim Sitzmann was a standout for the home side with 23 points, seven assists and five rebounds while fellow import Valeria Ogoke was equally as strong for the Slammers with 22 points and 13 rebounds.

Third place Wanneroo Wolves continue to regain their strong form with back-to-back victories against the Lightning and Mandurah Magic to take out top spot with one round to play.

The Wolves were convincing in a 77-50 win on the road against the Magic on Friday night, the Wolves were led by Shani Amos who finished with 14 points and was supported by Megan Lee with ten points and six rebounds.

Wanneroo went on to defeat the Lightning 68-46 on Saturday night at home to extend their winning streak to five games, Shani Amos was the stand out for the home side with 17 points and six rebounds.

Willetton Tigers extended their run to six straight wins with a 85-57 victory over the Perth Redbacks, Emma Lobb led the way offensively with 23 points for Willetton while teammate Jasmine Hooper had 21 points and ten rebounds.

The Redbacks defeated the Stirling Senators 59-54 at home to start the round with youngster Jessica Jakens standing tall for the undermanned Redbacks with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

It was a tough weekend for the Perry Lakes Hawks who are out of the race for a finals spot after going down to the Cockburn Cougars 67-60 with Cougars import Stephanie Jones amassing 32 points and nine rebounds.
