SBL Milestones

The SBL would like to congratulate a number of players and coaches who have achieved a number of milestones over the past two weekends of action, including Rick Morcom from the Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks who coached his 450th SBL game last weekend.

Morcom hit the mark in his sides game against Cockburn last Saturday night with the league recognising the achievement in front of the Hawks faithful at the WABC tonight.

In his 450 games Morcom has led the Hawks to six WSBL Championships, the only championship winning coach in Hawks WSBL history.

For the Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers Adam Nener and Alex Prince both hit the 200 game mark the past two weekends. Prince played his 200th game on Saturday 21 July against the Perth Redbacks while Nener hits the mark against the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers tonight.

Prince played his first seven years with the Cockburn Cougars, however moved to rivals Willetton in 2010 and was a crucial member of the Tigers first ever MSBL championship.

Nener started his career with the Tigers in 2000 and moved to Cockburn for two seasons in 2003, however he was back in Tigers colours in 2005.

Having spent three years in Victoria playing SEABL with Frankston, Nener rejoined his Tigers in 2010 and was also a crucial member of that championship team.

Also being recognised this weekend is Hawks WSBL forward Chelsea Boyanich who has played over 250 games after hitting the mark in the semi-finals last season.

Boyanich has played all of her twelve seasons with the Ladyhawks and won three championships in a row in her first three years. Since then Boyanich has played in seven grand finals and has enjoyed a total of five WSBL championships.

Also recently celebrating a milestone was Wolves veteran Doug Gates who played 300 SBL games back on the 14th July against the Hawks.

Gates has also played twelve years, all with the Wolves, starting in 2001 and has been a crucial cog in the Wolves offence over his career averaging 10.58 points in 300 games.

The veteran enjoyed his first grand final last year with a win, the Wolves first MSBL championship since 1993.
