Sabia keen to return

American Morgan Sabia said he would jump at the chance to return to Geraldton and play for the Buccaneers again.

Sabia, who averaged 19.9 points and 9.8 rebounds a game this season, said he wants to return to the Mid West next season.

“I would like to come back,” he said.

“Hopefully wherever I go next, the season ends at the right time so I can come in right at the start of the season.

“Geraldton is a great town and I think I gelled well with everyone on the team. They are a great bunch of guys and it is a fun atmosphere.”

Sabia is expected to fly back to the United States of America at the end of this month.

He said he has already been in touch with his agent about possible teams in Europe.

“I will talk with my agent and he has a few gigs lined up in Luxembourg and Slovakia,” he said.

“I just have to send them my game tape from my time here.”

Sabia made his debut for the Buccaneers in round eight of the season against reigning premier, Wanneroo Wolves.

It was the forward’s first season back after knee surgery which sidelined him for nine months.

Considering his injury, Sabia said he was pleased with his performance this season.

“Considering I was coming off knee surgery, I was pretty happy with how I played,” he said.

“I started off a bit slow but picked it up down the stretch and just want to keep picking it up from here.

“We really started to gel and play for each other, that is all we needed to do from the start, play for each other.”

Despite winning seven of their final eight games, the Buccs missed a finals berth and will be forced to watch the playoffs.

Sabia said it was tough to have their finals position taken away in the final game of the regular season.

“It is never good to have someone else help you out and to wish results go your way,” he said.
