Top two teams look to fight back (Men's semi-final preview)

Wanneroo and Lakeside, the two top teams at the end of the regular season, will look to recover from game one losses when their best-of-three semi-final series wrap up on the weekend.

The games are returning to the home courts of minor premiers Wanneroo Wolves and the second placed Lakeside Lightning after the round one games at the home stadiums of the lower ranked teams.

The Wolves take on the Eagles on Friday night at the Joondalup Basketball Stadium, the Eagles won game one 82-77 last weekend and will be determined to make club history with their first grand final appearance.

Wanneroo just couldn’t contain Eagles big man Tom Jervis last week who managed a massive 34 points and 21 rebounds, while the Wolves will be looking for key players Jordan Wild and Damian Matacz to step up.

If the Wolves win then the teams will head into a tie breaker on Saturday night at the Wolves home stadium to determine who will make it to the grand final on Saturday 1 September at the WA Basketball Centre.

The Lightning also find themselves down 1-0 after suffering a 98-91 defeat against the Cougars last weekend, they’ll enjoy home court advantage for game two on Friday and three, if necessary, on Saturday.

Lakeside will need to contain Cougars stars Jeremiah Wilson (26 points, 12 rebounds) and Brian Carlwell (23 points, 22 rebounds) and their support cast if they are too pull off two victories and progress to the grand final.

Cockburn shot an impressive 43% from the floor and an incredible 52% from three point land last weekend and will need to shoot at a similar clip this weekend if they are to win the series.

The Lightning on the other hand will look to get off to a better start after finding themselves down by 15 points at halftime last weekend.

The Kickz101 Men’s State Basketball League Grand Final is on Saturday 1 September at the WA Basketball Centre, tickets are on sale now through Ticketmaster. Click here to purchase tickets online.
