Giants release Lee

The Silver Lake Resources Goldfields Giants have released star import Anthony Lee from his 2013 one-year contract.

Lee, who was playing in Cyprus, was released by the Cypriot club for financial reasons, before signing on with a Macedonian club.

With the Macedonian league’s season not concluding until mid-May, Giants’ management decided to release Lee instead of having the 2011 State Basketball League most-valuable player miss the front-half of the upcoming season.

Originally signed by the local club in October last year, Giants chairman Daniel Bowler claimed Lee was poised to become one of the most highly compensated players in the league.

Speaking yesterday, Giants team manager Brad French said despite losing Lee the club has made inquiries into replacement imports.

“We are now looking at a couple of exciting guys,” French said.
