Bucc eyes the prize

The newest Geraldton Buccaneer is hoping his stint in the SBL will help him reignite his career in the NBA Development League.

American import Jamine Peterson arrived in Geraldton last week and said he hopes a stint in the SBL will help him take the first steps along the path to the NBA.

The highly credentialed utility hit the court for the first time with his teammates last weekend in Carnamah.

The Buccs conducted a training session and played games with fans in the rural town and Peterson said he enjoyed every minute.

The fancied 2011 NBA draft prospect said he had his eyes on one prize this season.

“I am here to help the team win a championship and hopefully they can help me chase my dream,” he said.

“I still have ambitious of playing in the NBA but I am excited to be here and am ready to go.”

Peterson, from Brooklyn, is confident his immigration papers will be finalised in time for him to play during the team’s round one road trip to Bunbury and Mandurah.

He said he can not wait to get on the court in Bunbury for the March 16 clash.

“The boys have welcomed me in as a brother and have been good teammates,” he said.

“Playing Carnamah was a learning experience to get to know the guys and how they play.

“I just hope to help the team where ever I can, what ever coach tells me to do I will do that.”

Peterson, nicknamed greedy, said he can play both inside and outside and will look to put on a show for the Geraldton fans.

He has played in Greece, Phillipines and Turkey after finishing his division one college career at Providence.

Peterson played with current NBA player Marshon Brooks while also playing against some current NBA stars.

“I have played against guys like Kemba Walker and Wesley Johnson so I think that will hold me in very good sted in this league,” he said.
