Peterson found guilty tribunal

Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers import Jamine Peterson has been found guilty by the Basketball WA tribunal and has been suspended for two weeks.

Peterson faced the tribunal on Wednesday night after SBL management referred a complaint from match referees about comments/gestures made by Peterson immediately after the Mandurah versus Geraldton game on Sunday 17 March. Under the SBL By-Laws the SBL has the power to refer any matter to the tribunal for consideration

Peterson pleaded not guilty to both charges of “Used abusive, threatening, obscene language or signs” and “Acted in an unsportsmanlike manner in the stadium precincts or surrounds.”

The tribunal heard evidence from both match officials, Peterson, as well as Geraldton head coach Ray Evans and player/assistant coach Mark Heron. In addition the tribunal also had access to video footage.

The tribunal did not accept Peterson’s statement and found him guilty of both charges and suspended him for two weeks from Thursday 21 March, meaning Peterson will miss the next two SBL games.

“The SBL and the tribunal take these matters very seriously, there is no room for this sort of behaviour in the SBL” said Chief Operating Officer Christian Rice.

“We have worked hard to build a family friendly product and we will continue to work hard on ensuring the image of the SBL is a positive one.”

Peterson will be cleared to take on the Kalamunda Eastern Suns on Saturday 6 April in Geraldton.
