Week One Player of the Week

Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers player-coach Ty Harrelson and Stirling Senators guard Taylor Lilley have been named Player of the Week for the opening round of the State Basketball League.

Harrelson finished with a triple-double of 26 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in his sides opening 90-86 win over the Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers.

Harrelson’s efforts as player-coach also saw him hit an impressive 54% from three point territory on 6/11 shooting.

Also putting in strong showings in the opening round were Buccaneers import Jamine Peterson who finished with 36 points and 10 rebounds against the Slammers and 36 points and 13 rebounds against the Mandurah Magic, with his side losing both games.

Perry Lakes Hawks guard Michael Lay almost finished their opening game with a triple-double, finishing with 14 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds in his sides 99-64 win over Kalamunda. Lay backed that up with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists in an 87-76 win over Mandurah the following night.

Others in consideration were Brad Jackson (Lakeside), Quinn Mc Dowell (Willetton), Brandon Adams (Willetton), Cooper Land (Rockingham), Steven Weingarten (Goldfields), Michael Vigor (Perth), Gavin Field (Cockburn), Tom Jervis (East Perth), Adrian Majstrovich (Perry Lakes), Rhett Della Maddalena (Mandurah) and Trian Iliadis (Wanneroo).

Former WNBA player Taylor Lilley was a standout in round one, finishing with 16 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists in her sides 68-69 loss to Wanneroo. Lilley backed that effort up with a solid 30 points (7/11 from three-point territory) and 8 rebounds in a 76-65 loss to Lakeside.

2011 League MVP Casey Mihovilovich returned to the league after having a baby during 2012, and the star guard didn’t miss a beat with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists in an opening 63-60 win over the Perry Lakes Hawks.

Star West Coast Waves forward Natalie Burton was also impressive in the Hawks opening two losses with 17 points and 12 rebounds against Mandurah and 18 points and 14 rebounds against Kalamunda.

Other players in consideration were Nikita-Lee Martin (Wanneroo), Antonia Edmondson (Willetton), Claire Johnson (Lakeside) and Adrienne Jones (Kalamunda).
