Wolves move to top (Week Three Women's Wrap)

Wanneroo moved clear at the top of the Women’s State Basketball League ladder with their third win from as many starts in the 2013 season.

The Wolves produced a superb defensive showing, beating Perth 53-30 on the road and limiting the Redbacks to the lowest game total of the season.

The win meant the Wolves maintained their standing at the top ahead of fellow unbeaten sides South West and Cockburn.

But the Cougars set up a highly-anticipated top-of-the-table clash with the Wolves next week by registering a tense 66-63 win over Kalamunda.

Reigning champions South West backed up their season-opening win with a second successive triumph, beating Mandurah 70-47.

Bianca Donovan (17 points) and Kimberly Sitzmann (14) top-scored for the Slammers, but it was Zoe Harper with 9 points and a whopping 17 rebounds who did most of the damage for the home side at Eaton.

Casey Mihovilovich registered a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds but lacked support from her Magic teammates in their first loss of the season.

Lakeside ended Willetton’s unbeaten start with a 76-64 win on the road.

The Lightning had five players reach double figures on the scoreboard as they spread the load, with Emily Fielding (17 points) and Krystal Stoneking (15) the best of them.

West Coast Waves youngster Antonia Edmondson continued her strong start to the SBL season with another 17 points for the Tigers.

Perry Lakes ended a three-game losing streak and kept Rockingham winless with a 59-50 win on the road.

Belinda Mayger (19 points) and Gabriella Clayton (14) led the scoring for the Lady Hawks, who were boosted by the return of the Boyanich sisters, Chelsea and Rebecca.

Earlier in the round Stirling Senators moved to 2-2 with a convincing 71-41 win over the East Perth Eagles.
