Tigers dunk Slammers (Friday night wrap)

The Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers men's and women's teams both put in impressive performances to beat the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers in the only SBL matches played on Friday night.

With the Perry Lakes Hawks-Stirling Senators fixtures rescheduled so as not to clash with the Perth Wildcats NBL grand final at the Perth Arena against the Perth Wildcats, the Tigers' clashes with the Slammers occupied the SBL limelight on Friday night.

The Slammers never quite went away in the men's contest, but the Tigers always appeared to have the answers throughout the night ending up winning 111-98.

Brandon Adams finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Tigers while Quinn McDowell had 25 and seven, and Wildcats development players Kyle Armour 24 points on an efficient 9-of-13 shooting from the field and 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.

Slammers player-coach Ty Harrelson was superb for his team with 34 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Clive Weeden added 18 points, Jamahr Warren 15 and Trent Worthington 12 to go with 12 boars.

It was a nail-biter between the women's sides with the defending champion Slammers getting off to a fast start and still leading 43-35 at half-time. That advantage was still six by three quarter-time, but the Tigers had an impressive last quarter and did enough to send the game into overtime.

While in the extra period, it was Willetton who prevailed with nine points to five to come away 74-70 winners. Shooting was far from a highlight of the night, though, with the Tigers hitting just 28-of-88 from the field at 32 per cent and 1-of-16 from three-point territory at six per cent.

The Slammers managed just 21-of-72 from the field at 29 per cent and 2-of-15 from three-point land at 13 per cent.

Lisa Walburton finished with 25 points and 12 rebounds for the Tigers while Antonia Edmondson added 16 and eight. Ella Kennedy also pulled in 11 boards as Willetton dominated the glass 64-40 for the night.

Kimberly Sitzmann scored a game-high 31 points for the Slammers while also collecting 10 boards and dishing out four assists. Lauren Jeffers scored 16 points and Zoe Harper 10 to go with her nine rebounds.
