Tamsalu departs East Perth

The East Perth Eagles Men’s SBL team has announced that Elgar Tamsalu will be released from his contract for the remainder of the season citing personal reasons as the reason for his early departure.

This is the only negative story to come from the Eagles camp that have started the 2013 season undefeated claiming all six victories to date.

The Estonian national starred for the Eagles averaging 11 points per game at 62% accuracy. Elgar’s strength and quickness added to the depth of the Eagles bench, which aided to his season high 17 points against Cockburn and a starting position in the absence of Joe-Alan Tupaea.

“This is a massive loss for us. Elgar was such a large part of what we did that his departure will leave a huge gap in the team.” Coach Adam Forde said.

“We understand the reasons why Elgar must return home and respect his decision. He is such a great character and talented player that we’ll miss him both on and off the court."

"The doors here at East Perth will always be open to him if he does return in the future.”

Coach Forde won’t be looking to replace Tamsalu, rather he will turn his focus to the bench, who combined have an average of 41.5 points per game.

“These guys bust their backsides at training for an opportunity and so far they have proved they deserve a chance. I got a great mix of experience and youth that can carry the additional workload, so I think we’ll be ok.”

The East Perth Eagles will test their depth this Friday night when they travel to Willetton to face the Tigers.
