Hawks remain undefeated (Week Six Men's Wrap)

Perry Lakes moved to the top of the Men’s State Basketball League with victory over Goldfields on the weekend, overtaking previous league leaders Lakeside, who suffered their first defeat of the season.

The Lightning lost 84-79 on the road at South West Slammers, while Perry Lakes won 105-92.

The Hawks had Corey Easley and Michael Lay to thank for their victory after the duo dropped 28 points each.

Kalamunda recruit Luke Nevill produced the biggest individual performance of the year but couldn’t drag the Suns to their first win of the season.

Former Perth Wildcats, Melbourne Tigers and Townsville Crocs centre Nevill registered 47 points, 24 rebounds, four assists and three blocks in a monster display against Mandurah.

Nevill shot 19-of-38 from the field and even nailed a three-pointer in a performance that is unlikely to be matched all season.

But the Magic won, 111-104, to keep the Suns winless at the foot of the ladder after seven games.

Rockingham made a statement with two big wins – their first victories of the season.

The Flames beat Cockburn 109-96 on Friday before beating Stirling 131-93 on Saturday.

Reigning champions Cockburn finished a disappointing weekend with a 110-101 loss to Willetton, which was the Tigers’ second win of the week following their 95-90 triumph over East Perth on Friday.

Perth are in the top eight following a 97-90 win over Geraldton, who slipped to 10th, while Wanneroo moved to 5th with a 114-84 win over South West.
