Week Six Players of the Week

Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers guard Quinn McDowell has taken out his second Men’s Player of the Week award this season after two scintillating performances which helped his team finish with a 2-0 record for week six.

On Friday night McDowell was the stand out player in his team’s five point victory over East Perth with 34 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

McDowell backed up his performance on Saturday night hitting the scoreboard again with 32 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in his team’s nine point win over Cockburn.

With a mammoth game on Saturday night, Kalamunda’s star signing Luke Nevill was unlucky to miss out on the award for week six. The 218cm big man dominated inside to finish with 47 points, 24 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks however it was not enough to get Kalamunda over the line as they went down to Mandurah by seven.

Rockingham Flames Import Steve Bennett also put in strong claims for the award with 25 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals on Friday night and 34 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals on Saturday night playing a vital role in guiding the Flames to a 2-0 record for week six.

Other players in consideration for the award were Rhett Della Maddalena (Mandurah), Cooper Land (Rockingham), Brandon Adams (Willetton), Michael Lay (Perry Lakes), Lordan Franich (Goldfields), David Reichel (Cockburn), Jamahr Warren (South West), Bennie Lewis (Perth), Tom Jervis (East Perth), Ben Beran (Lakeside), Travis Moore (Rockingham) and Robert Kampman (Geraldton).

The Rockingham Flames recently signed import Samantha Whitcomb as the replacement for 2012 WSBL MVP Emma Cannon and she has not disappointed taking out the Women’s Player of the Week award after an outstanding performance over the weekend giving her team a 2-0 record for week six.

Whitcomb’s unstoppable Friday night performance of 47 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals helped her team get over the line against Cockburn by seven points.

Whitecomb then backed up her performance on Saturday night with another double-double, contributing 21 points to go with 10 rebounds and 3 assists in Rockingham’s defeat of Stirling 73-63.

2012 Finals MVP, Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers star import Kim Sitzmann was also excellent over the weekend with 28 points, 15 rebounds and 2 steals on Friday night in her teams defeat of Lakeside by 10. Sitzmann backed up her performance on Saturday night with 32 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals to guide her team to a nine point defeat over the highly rated Wanneroo.

Other players in consideration for the award were Lisa Wallbutton (Willetton), Darcee Garbin (Rockingham), Casey Mihovilovich (Mandurah), Amber Land (Stirling), Nicole Jorre St Jorre (East Perth), Stephanie Jones (Cockburn) and Lauren Jeffers (South West).
