Kickz101 Perth Newcomer of the Week winners (Week 4/5)

The State Basketball League is pleased to announce its first two “Kickz101 Perth Newcomer of the Week” awards for Week Four & Five.

Thanks to our new partnership with basketball store Kickz101 Perth, we will announce a “Kickz101 Perth Newcomer of the Week” award. The award will be focused on younger players within the competition from rookies to players pushing for NBL/WNBL contracts.

After each month a poll on Facebook will determine who the “Kickz01 Perth Newcomer of the Month” is for the Women’s and Men’s competitions. The monthly winners will receive a pair of shoes of their choice at Kickz101 Perth.

The Week Four Men’s “Kickz101 Perth Newcomer of the Week” award winner was Trian Iliadis from the Australian Belt Scrapper Wanneroo Wolves.

Iliadis was impressive in the Wolves 19 point victory over Cockburn, finishing with a triple-double of 17 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists while registering just two turnovers in 35 minutes of court time.

The Week Five winner was Stirling Senators youngster Joshua Throns who finished with 28 points (11/15 from the field) and nine rebounds in the Senators upset 107-103 victory over Willetton.

Other impressive performances from the younger brigade in the Men’s SBL during week four and five action were Nikola Donlagic (East Perth), Louis Timms (Kalamunda), Sunday Dech (East Perth), Robert Huntington (Wanneroo), Ben Purser (Perry Lakes), Damien Scott (Cockburn), Caleb Davis (Stirling), Nik Iliadis (Stirling), Kyle Armour (Willetton), Michael Vigor (Perth), Jake Amos (Rockingham), Jesse Dixon (Lakeside), Luke Wrensted (Geraldton), Darrel Morgan (Lakeside), Tevin Jackson (Perry Lakes), Gavin Field (Cockburn) and Simon Lokan (Willetton).

In the Women’s competition Perth Redbacks youngster Jessica Jakens claimed the Week Four award with 13 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in the Redbacks breakthrough 76-73 win over Stirling.

The Week Five award winner was Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers youngster Desiree Kelley.

Kelley finished with eight points and six rebounds in just 14 minutes of court time in the Tigers 74-70 overtime victory over the reigning champions, Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers.

Other young players in the Women’s competition who stood out in Week Four and Five action were Chelsea Armstrong (Kalamunda), Gabby Clayton (Perry Lakes), Taryn Priestly (Cockburn), Bianca Donovan (South West), Courtney Byrnes (Lakeside), Samantha Roscoe (Stirling), Jemma Stallard (South West) and Rachel Halleen (Mandurah).

The monthly awards will start at the completion of April competition.
