Alava found guilty by tribunal

Wanneroo Wolves Women’s Head Coach Vladimir Alava has been found guilty by the Basketball WA tribunal and has been given a three week suspension, with two weeks to be suspended meaning he will miss one week of SBL.

Alava faced the tribunal on Wednesday night after the match officials lodged a report following the game between Wanneroo and the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers on Saturday 20 April at the Joondalup Basketball Stadium.

Alava pleaded not guilty to both charges of “used abusive, threatening, obscene language or gestures” and “acted in an unsportsmanlike manner in or around the stadium”.

The tribunal heard evidence from the match officials, Alava, as well as additional witnesses to the incident.

The tribunal did not accept Alava’s statement and found him guilty of both charges and suspended him for a total of three weeks from Wednesday 24 April. Two weeks of that suspension were suspended until the end of the SBL season, meaning Alava will miss only the Wolves double header in Week Seven.

Alava will be cleared for the Wolves double-header in week nine against the Rockingham Flames and Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers with the Wolves having a bye in week eight.
