Anzac Day double for Lightning (Thursday SBL Wrap)

The Lakeside Lightning women's and men's SBL teams had a double win on Anzac Day at Lakeside Recreation Centre over the East Perth Eagles.

The Anzac Day action started with the women's clash at midday with the Lightning women's team running out 17-point winners to improve to a 4-4 record on the season and restricting the Eagles to 1-6.

The Lightning were in control at half-time leading 39-26 and were never seriously threatened in the second half again outscoring the Eagles 34-27 to end up comfortable 73-56 winners.

The day had some added significance for the Lightning as well with Emily Fielding celebrating her 250th SBL appearance. To mark the occasion she finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists on 7-of-13 shooting from the field.

Jessica Beran hit 16 points to go with six boards and four assists with Krystal Stoneking adding 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Claire Johnson also had 10 points.

Denielle Lipscombe had 17 points and 10 rebounds with Nicole Jorre St Jorre finishing with 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Eagles but no other player on their team had more than five points.

Then in men's action, Lakeside made a terrific Anzac Day for the Lightning with a 10-point win over the Eagles in a tremendous contest.

Lakeside led by just three points at half-time and then only two at three quarter-time before a huge 34-point last quarter that saw the Lightning hold off the Eagles by 10 points.

The win improves Lakeside to an 8-1 record while East Perth has now slipped to 6-2 after two straight losses following a 6-0 start to the 2013 SBL season.

Ben Beran had a huge game for the Lightning finishing with 36 points, 10 rebounds and four assists on the back of shooting 16-of-31 from the field. His partner in crime Jarrad Prue had a massive 28 rebounds. Brad Jackson also had 24 points for Lakeside.

Perth Wildcats championship-winning guard Drew Williamson top-scored for East Perth with 26 points and had a near triple-double with 12 rebounds and eight assists as well.

Centre Tom Jervis added 23 points, six boards and four blocks for the Eagles with Jarrod Balcombe hitting 11 points and Nikola Donlagic 10.
