Lightning, Flames make statements in SBL (Friday Night Wrap)

The Lakeside Lightning were on fire out of the blocks scoring 38 points to the Redbacks' 14 in the opening quarter and cruised to a 125-90 victory to improve to an 11-1 record on the season to date.

Brad Jackson hit 29 points for the Lightning with Ben Beran adding 24 points and Justin Cecil 23. Jarrad Prue pulled in another 17 rebounds.

Michael Vigor had a huge game for the Redbacks with 31 points and 14 rebounds with Bennie Lewis scoring 19 points, Justin Brown 13 and Adam Johnston 10.

The Willetton Tigers beat the Kalamunda Eastern Suns 106-94 at the Willetton Basketball Stadium with Brandon Adams starring for the Tigers with 36 points, Quinn McDowell 30 to go with 11 rebounds and seven assists.

Luke Nevill continued his dominant form for Kalamunda with 34 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and three blocked shots. Ben Smith added 14 points and Jared Zornada 14 points.

The Wanneroo Wolves snapped a two-game losing run beating the Rockingham Flames 104-82 at Mike Barnett Sports Complex thanks to another big opening first quarter where they hit 39 points to Rockingham's 21.

Trian Iliadis top-scored for Wanneroo with 27 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Seb Salinas added 23 points and Damian Matacz 21 to go with 12 boards.

Cooper Land had a big night for the Flames with 30 points and 11 rebounds with Trent Gerovich adding 14 points and Steven Bennett 14 to go along with his six boards.

The East Perth Eagles beat the Mandurah Magic 87-84 in a thriller at Morley Sport and Recreation Centre. Tom Jervis finished with 23 points, 15 rebounds and four blocked shots for the Eagles with Jarrod Balcombe contributing 20 points and Joe-Alan Tupaea 16 points and 10 assists.

Taylor Mullenax scored 24 points for the Magic with Taylor Land adding 19, Ben Caporn 17 and Rhett Della Maddalena 13 to go with 13 rebounds and three assists.

The Rockingham Flames thumped the Wanneroo Wolves by 26 points to move ahead of the Wolfpack to the top of the WSBL ladder. Samantha Whitcomb was the star with 25 points, nine rebounds and four assists while Jacinta Bourne added 16 points and Cortney Hargreaves four.

Shani Amos was the only Wanneroo player scoring in double-figures with 15 points while Casey Lockwood had nine points and nine rebounds.

The Perth Redbacks improved to a 4-5 record with a 59-53 win over the Lakeside Lightning with Marita Payne having a massive night with 18 points and 24 rebounds. Jessica Jakens added 13 points and seven boards and Gabby O'Sullivan 12 points.

Krystal Stoneking scored 18 points and pulled in 13 rebounds while collecting four steals for the Lightning. Emily Fielding scored 16 points and had nine boards with Jessica Beran finishing with 11 and 11 as well.

The Mandurah Magic beat the East Perth Eagles 61-42 in the battle of bottom two WBSL sides with Briana Klasztorny finishing with 19 points, 13 rebounds and four assists for the Magic. Casey Mihovilovich also had 12 points and 13 boards, and Ashlee Sidebottom nine and eight.

Nicole Jorre St Jorre had 14 points for the Eagles with Elizabeth Cooke adding eight points and Denielle Lipscombe seven.

The Kalamunda Eastern Suns improved to a 6-3 record and brought the Willetton Tigers back to 7-3 with a 79-61 win on Friday night also.

Jennie Rintala top-scored for the Suns with 21 points and eight rebounds with Adrienne Jones contributing 19 points, six boards, four assists and three steals.

Lisa Wallbutton hit 18 points and had eight rebounds for the Tigers with Antonia Edmondson adding 16 points and Melissa Marsh 11 to go with seven assists.
