Wallbutton leads Tigers to WBSL win (Saturday Night Wrap)

Lisa Wallbutton had her second strong game of the weekend to lead the Willetton Tigers to an impressive women's SBL victory on Saturday night with Perry Lakes, Goldfields, Wanneroo, Lakeside and Mandurah particularly impressive in men's action.

The Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers bounced back from a WSBL loss to Kalamunda on Friday night to beat the Wanneroo Wolves 74-61 on Saturday.

Lisa Wallbutton backed up her big game on Friday with another 22 points and 19 rebounds for the Tigers with Antonia Edmondson adding 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Melissa Marsh had 11 points on an efficient 5-of-7 shooting from the field while Sophie Doyle added 11 points.

Nikita-Lee Martin scored 17 points for Wanneroo with Chelsea Burns adding 15 points and Casey Lockwood 13.

The Cockburn Cougars improved to a 5-5 record with an 80-74 win over the Lakeside Lightning with Stephanie Jones starring with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Emma Pass contributed 16 points and eight boards and Taryn Priestly nine points and eight assists.

Ashleigh Grant, Krystal Stoneking and Jessica van Schie all scored 17 points for the Lightning with Jessica Beran adding 10 points.

The Mandurah Magic recorded its second win over the weekend downing the Stirling Senators 56-53 after beating the East Perth Eagles on Friday.

Ashlee Sidebottom finished with 16 points and eight rebounds for Mandurah with Casey Mihovilovich adding 11 points and seven rebounds, and Rachel Halleen 11 points and five assists.

Taylor Lilley scored 19 points for Stirling with Tegan Walker adding 13 points and 12 boards, and Amber Land nine points and 13 rebounds.

Kalamunda backed up its win over Willetton on Friday with a 60-51 victory over the BOQ Perth Redbacks on Saturday. Adrienne Jones finished with 18 points for the Suns with Jennie Rintala scoring 17 points and pulling in 10 rebounds. Melissa Moyle also had 16 points.

Rachel Lisch finished with 14 points, eight assists and five rebounds for the Redbacks with Marita Payne adding 10 points and 13 rebounds, and Tarsha Fletcher 10 points.

The Perry Lakes Hawks beat the Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers 110-98 at Active West Stadium to remain in second position on the SBL ladder with a 9-2 record.

Corey Easley had 31 points for the Hawks with Rob Cassir adding 21 points, six assists and five rebounds. Michael Lay also contributed 19 points and Adrian Majstrovich 13 pints and 12 boards.

Carter Cook top-scored for Geraldton with 23 points with Rob Kampman adding 21 points and nine rebounds. Daniel Thomas scored 15 points, Matt Wunderberg 10 (and 14 rebounds) and Mark Heron 10.

The Silver Lake Resources Goldfields Giants won its third game of the SBL season with a 109-90 victory over the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers at Eaton Recreation Centre thanks to a 63-42 second half.

Markhuri Sanders-Frison had a huge game for the Giants with 22 points, 22 rebounds and five assists. Jaycen Herring and Matthew Leske both scored 29 points apiece as well while Lordan Franich added 16 points and nine rebounds.

Jamahr Warren continued his terrific form for South West with 38 points with Wade Hitchcock adding 14 points, Clive Weeden 12 and Ty Harrelson 12 to go with 14 assists and eight boards. Trent Worthington pulled in 15 rebounds.

The Australian Belt Scrapers Wanneroo Wolves improved to a 7-5 record and to move up into fifth position on the SBL ladder with a 112-105 win over the Willetton Tigers at Joondalup Basketball Stadium.

Seb Salinas top-scored for the Wolfpack with 28 points with Damian Matackz adding 24 points, Trian Iliadis 22 (eight rebounds, eight assists), Rob Huntington 19 and Rhys Smyth 10.

Quinn McDowell was outstanding for Willetton with 32 points with Brandon Adams adding 29 points and 16 rebounds.

Lakeside Lightning extended its advantage on top of the SBL with a 95-92 victory over the Cockburn Cougars at Lakeside Recreation Centre.

Ben Beran scored 28 points to go with nine rebounds for the Lightning with Justin Cecil contributing 27 points and Ryan Sofoulis 12. Jarrad Prue also had eight points and 19 rebounds.

Brian Carlwell was huge for the Cougars with 31 points and 22 rebounds. David Reichel also had 22 points, Gavin Field 19 and Seva Chan 10.

The Mandurah Magic beat the Stirling Senators 84-75 at Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre after going down to the East Perth Eagles on Friday.

Taylor Mullenax scored 28 points and pulled in seven rebounds for the Magic with Rhett Della Maddalena adding 20 points and 14 boards. Taylor Land also had 15 points, 11 assists and five rebounds.

Jordan Wild had 22 points and 12 rebounds for the Senators with Josh Throns scoring 14 points, Sean Gilmore 12 and Ryan Woodbury 11.

The BOQ Perth Redbacks improved to a 7-5 record with a 110-91 win over the Kalamunda Eastern Suns to make up for a 35-point humping at the hands of Lakeside on Friday.

Michael Vigor had a huge night for the Redbacks with 36 points and 12 rebounds. Bennie Lewis added in 20 points, Ryan Neill 14, Dennis Tawhiti 10 and Justin Brown 10 to go with 10 rebounds.

Luke Nevill had another 33 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for the Suns with Ben Smith scoring 21 points and Louis Timms 10 to go with 10 boards.
