Redbacks’Overtime Win

The BOQ Redbacks’ Women’s State Basketball League team had a dramatic 59 to 53 overtime win against Lakeside Lightning, after the scores were level at 45 apiece at the end of regular time.

Centre Marita Payne top-scored for the Redbacks with 18 along with a huge 24 rebounds.

Forward Jess Jakens scored 13 and had seven rebounds while point-guard Gabby O’Sullivan scored 12 and had three assists.

The Redbacks’ women lost their second game of the weekend against Kalamunda Eastern Suns 51 to 60.

Point guard Rachel Lisch was their highest scorer with 14 and eight assists.

Payne scored 10 and had 13 rebounds while forward Tarsha Fletcher also scored 10.

The BOQ Redbacks’ women’s team now has four wins and six losses and is in eighth place in the 12-team competition.

The Redbacks’ men’s team lost their first game of the weekend 90 to 125 against the top-placed Lakeside Lightning.

Power-forward Michael Vigor was their highest scorer with 31 along with 14 rebounds.

Swing-man Bennie Lewis was their next highest scorer with 19 and four assists while point-guard Adam Johnston scored 10.

However, they bounced back the next night to beat the Kalamunda Eastern Suns 110 to 91.

Vigor was again their highest scorer with 36 along with 12 rebounds and five assists while Lewis had 20 and six assists.

Centre Justin Brown scored 10 and had 10 rebounds and forward Dennis Tawhiti also scored 10 along with six rebounds.

The Redbacks’ Men’s team now has seven wins and five losses and is in sixth-place in the 14-team competition.

The action continues this Saturday when the BOQ Redbacks meet Cockburn Cougars at the Wally Hagan Stadium in Hamilton Hill, with the women’s game tipping off at 6PM and the men’s game at 8PM.
