Week Nine SBL Players of the Week

Silver Lake Resources Goldfields Giants import Markhuri Sanders-Frison has taken out the Week Nine Men’s SBL Player of the Week.

Out of the University of California, 201cm Sanders-Frison put together two dominating performances and guided the travelling Giants to a 2-0 record on the road and kept them in touch with the top eight.

Sanders-Frison was unstoppable on Saturday night with 22 points, 22 rebounds and 5 assists as Goldfields upset South West 109-90 at Eaton Recreation Centre.

Double-headers always pose difficulties for players backing up the next day, however it was no problem for Sanders-Frison who dominated again for the Giants finishing with 21 points and 22 rebounds as Goldfields defeated Stirling 90-74.

Week nine was a round of stand-out individual performances in the Men’s SBL, Luke Nevill (Kalamunda) had 67 points, 26 rebounds and 12 assists in two games, Michael Vigor (Perth) had 67 points, 26 rebounds and 7 assists in his two games, while in Willetton’s weekend double-header both Quinn McDowell 72 points, 13 rebounds and 14 assists and Brandon Adams 65 points, 22 rebounds and 5 assists were outstanding.

The Week Nine Women’s SBL Player of the week has been awarded to Kalamunda Eastern Suns guard Adrienne Jones.

For Kalamunda to defeat the highly rated Willetton Tigers away from home on Friday night, Jones needed to have a big impact and she did just that recording 19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals as the Suns won 79-61.

On Saturday night Kalamunda faced game two of their tough double-header where Jones was impressive again with 18 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists and 3 steals to lead the Suns to a nine point victory over Perth.

Other consideration for the award were Lisa Wallbutton (Willetton), Marita Payne (Perth), Antonio Edmondson (Willetton), Jennie Rintala (Kalamunda), Bree Klasztorny (Mandurah), Samantha Whitcomb (Rockingham), Rachel Lisch (Perth), Stephanie Jones (Cockburn), Krystal Stoneking (Lakeside) and Tegan Walker (Stirling).
